'Butterfly Bull ‘ Murtra Editions Catalunya
In 2003 I participated in a print workshop in the Fundacio Pilar i Joan Miro GraphicsWorkshop in Mallorca and met Jordi Roses and Pilar Lloret. Together they run a highly professional print workshop ‘Murtra Editions’ outside Barcelona that they established in 1988
The Art Print Residence provides accommodation for printmakers and other visual artists, writers and poets while they research and create their work at the studio. The rural setting provides a quiet space for you to live and work. They collaborate with artists to enable them to realise their ideas in a diverse number of print media and also offer an editioning service if required. Among the artists they have worked with to date are such notables as Joan Brossa, Antoio Saura, Maria del Bonet and Antonio Tapies. The house is located in Arenys de Munt, approximately 30 minutes from Barcelona and 45 from Girona by road. Arenys de Mar, the adjoining seaside town, is within walking distance and where you can catch local transport to Barcelona.
I had been searching for a workshop who would assist me to print in a larger format than was possible in Cork Printmakers when in 2006 Murtra Editions informed me that they had purchased a large press capable of printing up to 140cms in width and invited me to visit.
A residency grant awarded by Cork Printmakers in 2006 enabled me to work with Jordi and Pilar for nine days .I found the environment very inspiring and we worked well together producing artist’s proofs for two large prints for ‘The Butterfly Bull’ exhibition.
The following year I returned for another ten days and prepared the plates for editioning , finalising colours and paper with Pilar.
They produced an edition of ten prints of each work and delivered them in time for my exhibition 'Butterfly Bull' in the Original Print Gallery , Dublin in 2008 .
